Squid Game, the gripping Netflix series that took the world by storm in 2021, is gearing up for its second season. According to media reports, the cast and crew will celebrate the completion of filming with a two-day wrap-up party, on June 11 and 12.
Squid Game is a Netflix series that tells the story of people who participate in a mysterious survival game with a prize of 45.6 billion won, risking their lives to become the ultimate winner. Season 1, which was released in 2021, was watched by over 140 million households worldwide in just four weeks and held the No. 1 spot in the Netflix TV program category worldwide for an extended period, gaining immense popularity.
The show’s immense popularity translated into critical acclaim. Oh Young-soo won the TV Supporting Actor Award at the 79th Golden Globe Awards. Lee Jung-jae and Jung Ho-yeon received top honors at the 28th Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards), taking home the TV Drama Series Male and Female Lead Actor Awards, respectively. Squid Game further solidified its place in awards season by winning the Foreign Language Drama Award and the Drama Series Best Actor Award (Lee Jung-jae) at the 27th Critics Choice Awards.
Filming for Season 2 began in July 2023 and is reportedly nearing completion. The wrap-up party serves as a way for the cast and crew to celebrate this milestone and share their hopes for the success of the upcoming season. The festivities will reportedly include water leisure activities and a barbecue party.
Several cast members from Season 1 are expected to attend the wrap-up party, with Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-joon, Gong Yoo, and Yim Si-wan reportedly adjusting their schedules to be there. Kang Ha-neul’s attendance is also a possibility. Lee Jin-wook and Oh Dal-su have already confirmed their presence.
