My Sweet Mobster Finally Hits 3% Ratings with Uhm Tae Goo and Han Sun Hwa’s First Kiss
JTBC’s Wednesday-Thursday drama “My Sweet Mobster” has finally reached a significant milestone in viewership ratings, breaking into the 3% range thanks to the blossoming romance between its leads, played by Uhm Tae Goo and Han Sun Hwa.
According to Nielsen Korea, the 10th episode of the drama, which aired on July 11th, garnered a nationwide viewership rating of 3.0% and 2.7% in the metropolitan area. This marks a significant jump of 0.4 percentage points from the previous episode and the drama’s highest rating to date. It’s also the first time “My Sweet Mobster” has surpassed the 3% mark since its premiere on June 12th.
Despite the strong performances of Uhm Tae Goo and Han Sun Hwa, the drama initially struggled to break out of the 2% range in viewership ratings. This can be attributed to the fierce competition it faced from popular terrestrial and cable variety shows, as well as educational programs airing in the same 9 pm time slot on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
However, positive word-of-mouth from viewers has helped “My Sweet Mobster” gain traction. In the TV-OTT drama buzz survey conducted by Good Data Corporation for the first week of July, the drama ranked second only to SBS’s “Connection.” Additionally, Uhm Tae Goo and Han Sun Hwa secured the top two spots (first and third, respectively) in the drama actors’ buzz category.
“My Sweet Mobster” is a romantic comedy packed with unexpected turns. It centers around Seo Ji-hwan (Uhm Tae Goo), a reformed older brother with a dark past, and Go Eun-ha (Han Sun Hwa), a playful “mini-older sister” who loves spending time with children. While the drama has its lighthearted moments, its uncomplicated plot and the intriguing development of the main characters’ emotional connection offer viewers a refreshing experience.
The drama has already unveiled the secrets Seo Ji-hwan and Go Eun-ha hold from their past. This quick progression has paved the way for their budding romance. In episode 10, Seo Ji-hwan finally confesses his true feelings to Go Eun-ha, leading them to embark on their exciting first love journey.
The mutual affection between Seo Ji-hwan and Go Eun-ha has captured the hearts of viewers. Their playful displays of jealousy and affection provide a delightful mix of humor and excitement.
Seo Ji-hwan’s transformation is particularly noteworthy. Consumed by jealousy upon seeing Go Eun-ha with Jang Hyun-woo (Kwon Yool), he boldly grabs her hand and declares, “Let’s go, baby!” in a dominant yet humorous move. Meanwhile, his heartfelt confession about disliking the company of other men reveals a more vulnerable side. His plea, “Look only at me,” further fuels the viewers’ excitement.
With Seo Ji-hwan taking the initiative and planting a tender kiss on Go Eun-ha’s cheek, the drama raises anticipation for his transformation from a “mossol” (a single man who is good-looking but inexperienced in love) to a true romantic hero. After much hesitation, Seo Ji-hwan has finally made his move, leaving viewers eager to see how this sweet change unfolds for the couple.
