On December 16, SBS’s Same Bed, Different Dreams Season 2: You Are My Destiny (Dongsang Imong 2) aired, revealing the struggles of celebrity couple Jeon Min-ki, and Jeong Mi-nyeo, married for 10 years. The couple had previously made shocking statements like “Marriage is hell” and “Shouldn’t we get a divorce?” in a preview, which intrigued viewers.
Jeon Min-ki, a former announcer, and Jeong Mi-nyeo, a former weathercaster, are both active as broadcasters, appearing on podcasts and YouTube. Despite their public activities, they confessed to facing multiple “divorce” crises and often questioned their ability to maintain their marriage.
The couple shared their turbulent past, including their “pre-marriage breakup declaration” and conflicts during their “newlywed life,” filled with anger and tears. They admitted to constantly disagreeing on everything, from eating habits to lifestyle choices.
In footage of their daily lives, it was revealed that they live in separate rooms and frequently argue. One night, Jeong Mi-nyeo, who tends to stay up late, ate ramen and wine in the kitchen. She explained, “Due to my busy schedule, I get very hungry at night. So, I eat whatever ramen is in the house.” Jeon Min-ki, said, “Ever since our honeymoon, I’ve noticed that my wife always needs her alone time.” After eating, Jeong Mi-nyeo washed dishes in the middle of the night, waking up Jeon Min-ki, who snapped, “Why are you washing dishes at this hour?” She replied, “It’s because of the smell of the soup.”
Their opposite sleep schedules—Jeon Min-ki being a morning person and Jeong Mi-nyeo a nocturnal one—led to a big argument. Jeon Min-ki exploded, saying, “If you’re going to do this, go live abroad. How can you live with such a different sleep schedule?”Jeong Mi-nyeo went to bed feeling overwhelmed.
The next morning, Jeong Mi-nyeo broke her promise and made Jeon Min-ki take their child to school. Tension continued as she spoke to him sharply, still upset by their argument. The couple fought over their differing routines, with Jeon Min-ki getting angry at her for taking too long to get ready for work.
Kim Gu-ra, who recommended the couple for the show, called them “human Dongsang Imong.” The MCs remarked on their stark differences, saying, “They’re so different from each other” and “Their personalities are polar opposites.”
While filming a YouTube video together, the couple exchanged harsh remarks. Jeon Min-ki criticized Jeong Mi-nyeo’s career change, saying, “My wife couldn’t act, so she changed her career path.” She grew upset, and after the broadcast ended, she cried, saying, “No matter how it’s a broadcast, why do you belittle me? I told you not to say things like that, even as a joke.”
During a meal with friends Tey and Heo An-na, their long-standing conflicts surfaced. Tey even told them to “stop saying those things.”
In an interview, Jeong Mi-nyeo revealed that even during their dating days, they didn’t get along. A week before their wedding, she said, “I can’t do this marriage. I think we should break up.” Despite being persuaded by her in-laws, their honeymoon was another point of conflict. Jeong Mi-nyeo felt neglected, saying, “I wanted to enjoy the trip, but my husband only toured during the day and slept in separate twin beds. We returned from our honeymoon without any physical contact, and I felt miserable.”
Jeon Min-ki admitted, “It was actually 0 times (in terms of intimacy).” The MCs reacted, saying, “That’s a real reason for divorce.”
Jeon Min-ki explained, “I was mentally and physically exhausted due to preparing for the wedding. I just wanted to sleep.” Jeong Mi-nyeo felt miserable, saying, “I wanted my husband to approach me first, but he turned away and slept after a few days. I thought he didn’t see me as a woman.”
The couple revealed their marriage “was close to hell” for 2-3 years due to their ongoing struggles.
