Korean cinema veteran Choi Min-sik, best known for his best performances in “Oldboy” and “Roaring Currents,” is back on the big screen with a chilling mystery-thriller titled “Exhuma.”
Stepping into the role of a powerful geomancer, Choi Min-sik leads the charge in unraveling a terrifying ancestral curse that plagues a wealthy family in Los Angeles. When a series of paranormal events threaten their newborn child, the desperate family turns to a pair of young shamans, played by rising stars Kim Go-eun and Lee Do-hyun.
Guided by their intuition, the shamans sense a sinister presence attached to the family – a “Grave’s Calling,” as it’s ominously known. To break the curse and appease the restless spirit, they seek the expertise of Choi’s geomancer and a skilled mortician, played by the versatile Yoo Hai-jin.
Their quest leads them to a remote Korean village, where the cursed grave lies hidden. The exhumation, however, unleashes a malevolent force far more powerful than they imagined. Now, the unlikely team must confront this ancient evil and find a way to stop it before it consumes them all.
“Exhuma” is a collaborative effort between Showbox and Pinetown Production, with the esteemed MCMC studio lending its support. The film is directed by Jang Jae-hyun, known for his critically acclaimed works like “Svaha: The Sixth Finger” and “The Priests,” ensuring a masterfully crafted experience.
