Byeon Woo-seok’s agency, Varo Entertainment, has issued an apology for the excessive security measures that were taken when the actor departed from Incheon International Airport on July 12.
“We deeply apologize for any inconvenience or offense caused to airport users due to the security measures taken when our artist departed from Incheon International Airport on July 12,” the agency said in a statement. “We will take steps to ensure that such situations do not occur again by being more meticulous and cautious, especially to avoid inconveniencing airport users and the general public.“
Byeon Woo-seok was leaving for Hong Kong to attend an Asia fan meeting when his security guards were accused of going overboard. The guards were reportedly blocking passengers from entering and exiting a gate, checking the boarding passes of passengers who were trying to use the lounge, and shining flashlights at airport users.
The security company that was hired by Varo Entertainment said that the measures were necessary to prevent fans from rushing towards the actor and causing injury to both him and other passengers. However, many people online criticized the guards’ actions, calling them excessive and disrespectful.
Varo Entertainment acknowledged that the security guards’ actions were “inappropriate” and said that they had “deeply regretted” any inconvenience or offense that was caused. The agency also said that it would take steps to ensure that such incidents do not happen again.
Byeon Woo-seok’s popularity has skyrocketed in recent months following the success of his tvN drama “Lovely Runner.” The actor is currently on a fan meeting tour that is taking him to several different countries.
