Cyberbully Sojang tries to stop legal action by Jang Wonyoung
Sojang, the operator of the cyberbully channel “Taldeok Camp (탈덕수용소), has deposited 100 million won (approximately ,75,260 USD) to prevent legal action from Jang Wonyoung, a member of the idol group IVE.
Sojang previously filed an appeal against the 1st instance court ruling and denied accepting the ruling. He also claimed that he did not write the apology posted on online communities in the past.
In June of last year, a netizen presumed to be Sojang wrote an apology, stating, “I was crazy about views and money.” However, Sojang denied this and stated that he had no intention of apologizing.
“Taldeok Camp (탈덕수용소)” was a cyberbully channel that spread fake news and rumors about celebrities from 2021 to July of last year.
Regarding Jang Wonyoung, they mass-produced fake news ranging from personality controversies to discord rumors. In response, Starship Entertainment, Jang Wonyoung’s agency, filed a lawsuit against Sojang in October of last year, claiming that his continuous spread of falsehoods was damaging her reputation.
The court ruled in favor of Jang Wonyoung and ordered Sojang to pay her 100 million won in damages.
However, “Taldeok Camp (탈덕수용소)” claimed that they did not know that the fake news about Jang Wonyoung was false, and even if it was, they argued that it was not defamation because it was uploaded for public interest. They also claimed that the amount of damages was too high and filed an appeal.
Jang Wonyoung’s side is maintaining a strong stance against Sojang. As Sojang has applied for a suspension of enforcement, the legal battle is expected to continue.
