Jang Ki Yong Transforms into Bok Gwi Joo
Actor Jang Ki Yong, starring in “Korean Drama: The Atypical Family,” will transform into Bok Gwi Joo, a time traveler struggling with depression and a lost ability.
The production team of JTBC’s new Saturday-Sunday drama “The Atypical Family” released stills of Bok Gwi Joo (played by Jang Ki Yong) on the 9th. The show takes a unique spin on fantasy romance. Bok Gwi Joo, a man with the extraordinary ability to travel through time, finally meets the woman destined for him. However, the story isn’t your typical happily ever after. Despite his power, Bok Gwi Joo has never been able to save anyone else.
“The Atypical Family” blends humor and heartwarming moments as it follows the story of the Bok family. Gifted with superpowers, they grapple with modern-day illnesses that threaten to take away their unique abilities. Enter Do Da Hae (played by Chun Woo Hee), a mysterious woman who becomes unexpectedly intertwined with the Boks’ lives.
A Renowned Crew Brings the Story to Life
Director Jo Hyun Taek, known for his exceptional work on “SKY Castle,” takes the helm for “The Atypical Family.” Writer Joo Hwa-mi, who delivered relatable narratives in “Marriage, Not Dating,” tackles the script. Furthermore, writer Kang Eun-kyung, who gained public trust with “Dr. Romantic,” joins the creative team to elevate the story.
A Talented Cast Fuels Anticipation
The star popularity of the actors adds another layer of excitement to the upcoming drama. Jang Ki Yong takes on the “complex role” of Bok Gwi Joo. Joining him are Chun Woo Hee as Do Da Hae, the enigmatic woman who disrupts the Bok family’s dynamic. Veteran actress Go Doo Shim portrays Bok Man Heum, the family matriarch, and Kim Su Hyun takes on the role of Bok Dong Hee.
This marks Jang Ki Yong’s first comeback project since his military discharge in February last year.
A Glimpse into Bok Gwi Joo’s World
The character stills offer a glimpse into Bok Gwi Joo’s transformation, played by Jang Ki Yong. The initial image captures the essence of a depressed time traveler who can no longer use his “time slip” ability. Bok Gwi Joo is restricted to reliving past moments of happiness, unable to change the events that unfolded. These glimpses into the past serve as a bittersweet comfort, a reminder of a time when his life held a different purpose.
The contrasting photos hint at a life-altering event. Bok Gwi Joo’s once hopeful expression is replaced by a profound sadness. His vacant eyes and empty bottles of alcohol paint a picture of hardship. Deprived of both his ability and his happiness, Bok Gwi Joo’s future seems bleak.
The arrival of Do Da Hae, a polite yet strangely intrusive woman, disrupts the stagnant present. The question remains: what kind of changes will she bring to Bok Gwi Joo’s life?
Jang Ki Yong Shares His Excitement
Echoing the show’s title, Jang Ki Yong expressed his enthusiasm for the script’s unique concept. He found the story of a superpowered family battling modern illnesses to be refreshing. He also highlighted his eagerness to work with the talented production team. Balancing excitement and nervousness about his return to acting after a hiatus, Jang Ki Yong promises a drama filled with laughter and heartwarming emotions.
“The Atypical Family” premieres on the 4th of next month at 10:30 p.m.
