The new JTBC drama “Family by Choice,” written by Hong Si-young and directed by Kim Seung-ho, the Korean remake of the popular Chinese drama “Go Ahead,” announced on July 16th that filming for the drama wrapped up on the 14th.
“Family by Choice” is a romance drama following the story of three young people who lived together as a family for 10 years before spending another 10 years apart, this time with romantic feelings for each other.
- Hwang In-yeop takes on the role of Kim San-ha, a handsome young man with a unique past.
- Jung Chae-yeon portrays Yoon Joo-won, the family’s only daughter.
- Bae Hyeon Seong plays Kang Hae-jun, a cheerful and energetic boy with a passion for basketball.
Veteran actors join the cast to portray the father figures in the drama:
- Choi Won-young plays Yoon Jung-jae, Yoon Joo-won’s father.
- Choi Moo-sung takes on the role of Kim Dae-wook, Kim San-ha’s father.
The two fathers, along with the three younger leads, form an unexpected family unit, raising the children together. The stills released by the production company hint at the heartwarming dynamic between the characters, with a chemistry reminiscent of a long-married couple. Despite their unconventional family structure, their deep connection and affection for one another are undeniable.

They continued, “From the moment the bloodless people gathered under one roof to the moment they became adults and reunited, we built a family-like bond together. We will carefully finish the post-production work so that the warmth and excitement created on the spot can be well delivered to the viewers. We are currently discussing the schedule for the second half of this year.“
With filming complete, “Family by Choice” is now gearing up for its broadcast later this year.
