A Unique Storyline
“Dog Knows Everything” is a situational comedy that tells the lively and brave story of seniors teaming up with a retired police dog named Sophie. With Lee Soon-jae leading the cast, the drama is getting a lot of buzz for its impressive lineup of veteran actors, a fresh idea, and a mix of comedy and mystery.
Director’s Vision
Director Kim Yoo-jin emphasized how different this drama is. He mentioned, “‘Dog Knows Everything’ centers around a group of five senior protagonists led by Lee Soon-jae. While filming, we focused on how to best highlight their strengths. In various episodes, a multitude of serious crimes occur, and the senior quintet becomes involved in solving them and apprehending criminals. We hope that this dynamic portrayal will be both entertaining and inspiring for younger audiences.”
Reasons for Joining
Lee Soon-jae explained why he wanted to be part of this project. He said, ’I was intrigued by the unusual title. The concept of a dog and a human communicating directly to solve cases was fascinating. The writer’s strong deductive reasoning made the script enjoyable to read. And having so many veteran actors involved was reassuring. The drama has a diverse cast of characters.’
Excitement from the Cast
Kim Yong Gun, who hasn’t appeared in a drama for about six or seven years, expressed his excitement too. He said, “The idea of a dog and a human communicating was intriguing. With Lee Soon-jae at the center of the drama, I focused on working well with him. I think the drama turned out well, and I have high expectations for it.”
A Special Experience for Song Ok-suk
’Song Ok-suk,’ the youngest of the senior group, shared her thoughts. She mentioned, “I’ve often been the oldest on drama sets, so I was grateful for the opportunity to work with senior actors. I was concerned about the health of Lee Soon-jae and Kim Yong Gun. Watching them, I’ve reflected on how I should age and what kind of image I should present as an actor. I wonder if I’ll be the oldest in a potential Season 2.”
Characters with Real Names
Interestingly, all five senior actors play characters with the same names as themselves. Kim Yong Gun said, “It was very convenient because my character was similar to my real self. I could simply show my usual self.” Song Ok-suk added, “Having my own name as a character was unusual. I wondered how to portray the character as depicted in the drama. However, I realized that when someone casts you with your real name, they must have imagined the aspects of you that are visible to others. Using my real name allowed for a more natural performance.”
A Family-Friendly Show
Lee Soon-jae wrapped up the conference by saying, “There aren’t many dramas that the whole family can watch, but ‘Dog Knows Everything’ is one. It’s the first Korean drama to attempt interaction between animals and humans. I hope this drama will pave the way for more of this kind.”
