NewJeans Meets Fans at Tokyo Dome
NewJeans is making waves in Japan, meeting with their fans at the iconic Tokyo Dome for their “Bunnies Camp 2024” fan meeting on June 26th and 27th. Both shows were completely sold out, with even limited-view seats being snapped up by eager fans. This is a significant achievement for the group, solidifying their popularity in Japan.
Record-Breaking Speed to Tokyo Dome
The event marks a historic moment for NewJeans as they become the first K-Pop artist group to stand on the stage of Tokyo Dome in just 1 year and 11 months after their debut in Korea. Tokyo Dome, with a capacity of up to 50,000 people per show, is one of the largest concert halls in Japan. This achievement signifies the shortest period for a K-Pop artist to reach this prestigious venue after their debut.
Min Hee-jin Supports NewJeans Despite Ongoing Dispute with HYBE
Despite the ongoing conflict with her parent company HYBE, producer Min Hee-jin, who played a key role in creating NewJeans, attended both fan meetings to show her support for the group.
Last April, tensions rose between Min Hee-jin and HYBE. HYBE launched an emergency audit after accusations that Min Hee-jin attempted to take control of ADOR, the sub-label she leads that manages NewJeans. The situation escalated further when HYBE filed a complaint with the police, alleging breach of trust in business. Min Hee-jin vehemently denied these claims, stating, “I have never planned or attempted to seize management rights.” The investigation by the police is still ongoing.
Changes at ADOR and Min Hee-jin Maintains Position
At the ADOR extraordinary general meeting held last month, two existing internal directors, Shin and Kim, were dismissed, replaced by three new appointments. Notably, HYBE abstained from voting on the proposal to remove Min Hee-jin from her position, allowing her to retain her role at ADOR. Following this development, Min Hee-jin held a press conference expressing her desire for compromise with HYBE. However, a true reconciliation mood has yet to be established.
Active Promotion by Min Hee-jin in Japan
Even amidst the dispute with HYBE, Min Hee-jin actively supported NewJeans’ activities in Japan leading up to the release of their debut Japanese single “Supernatural.” She utilized her social media presence (SNS) to promote the group by posting teasers for the music video, pop-up stores, merchandise images, and even her own fan art.
NewJeans Joins Elite Company at Tokyo Dome
NewJeans’ entry into Tokyo Dome is a significant accomplishment, joining the ranks of only six other K-Pop girl groups who have performed at the venue before them: Kara (2013), Girls’ Generation (2014), Twice (2019), Blackpink (2019), and Aespa (2023). Notably, they have achieved this feat in record time, becoming the fastest K-Pop artist to reach Tokyo Dome after debut (1 year and 11 months).
Colorful Stage and Special Performances Planned for Second Day
The second day of the fan meeting promises to be a spectacular event. Following an opening DJ set by producer 250, NewJeans will take the stage for a hit-filled performance. The setlist boasts over 20 songs, with a total runtime of approximately 150 minutes. Fans can also look forward to solo stages by the individual members and special guest appearances.
