Suzy Bae, a South Korean actress who used to be a vocalist for the now-defunct girl group Miss A, is making a K-pop comeback in Netflix’s latest K-pop-themed coming-of-age drama, “Doona.”
Suzy, who is now 29, plays the role of Lee Doona, a former member of the fictional K-pop girl group Dream Sweet. Even though it’s been a while since Suzy last sang and danced on stage, her performance in the drama’s just-released music video “The Whispering Spell” is just as good as her idol days.
“Doona” is based on the webtoon “The Girl Downstairs.” It tells the story of Lee Doona, a K-pop idol who suddenly quits at the peak of her career. To hide from the world, Doona moves into a share house where she meets her neighbor Won Jun, played by Yang Se-jong.
Their first meeting is not so good. Doona is rude to Won Jun at first, but they eventually start to like each other.
“Doona” is directed by Lee Jung-hyo, the director of the global mega-hit series “Crash Landing on You.”
To celebrate the drama’s premiere, the ladies of Dream Sweet released their first music video, “The Whispering Spell.” The video features Suzy on main vocals, with co-star Go Ah-sung also showing off her singing and dancing skills. Hip-hop singer Janet Suhh is also part of the fictional group, along with La Chica’s Simeez and Rian.
